One of the main challenges facing a community group is how to get enough money to do all the things that need to be done and having secured the money, how to manage it in the best way.  Sources of funding include grants and gifts and donations.

Grant Funding

Grants are typically made by the public sector such as local councils or by charitable trusts and foundations.

The Children and Young People’s Area Partnerships currently have funding to provide small bursaries up to £300 to support small and medium sized voluntary youth groups and projects working with young people aged between 10 and 19 years old. The bursaries are easy to apply for and aimed at supporting trips and activities, staff training costs and equipment. Young people are expected to apply for the funding on behalf of their club or project

Donations and Gifts

Donations generally come from individuals (e.g. from a fundraising appeal or given as a legacy), from companies, or from charitable trusts and foundations.

Grant Finder is the leading grants database listing over 6000 funding opportunities. Cambridge Council for Voluntary Service and Hunts Forum of Voluntary Organisations can undertake searches of the database on behalf of local community and voluntary organisations.
